Unless hidden stories, that was a good price pre-Covid. These days? Put the deposit down NOW.

For discussion’s sake, what’s this car worth if as good as advertised? Hint: if your answer is in four digits, you’re not following the market.

It's still on the cusp of a hundred thousand miles with a few interior things that need to be undone to be 100% stock. If it is 5 digits, it's like 10 grand and not a dime more. Certainly wouldn't buy it sight unseen.

I know I'm an anomaly, but I paid 4 grand for an NA8 with around 40k miles last year. Deals exist if you look hard.

Bob_MX5

I'll respectfully disagree. At those miles, 5 digits is too much. Too much 2 yrs ago. Too much today.

I'll let the m.net crowd tell us which of us isn't following the market. $10,000 for a 100,000 NA? Nope. Probably not even an M

Down here in New Zealand, these 100k miles (160kms) examples are hitting 5-digits now. MX5/Miatas have more than doubled in price in the last 2 years.

Bob, where is Nigel? Have I missed something?

The color combo makes this one underpriced for sure. How much do - dunno.

I think a lot of people think they've struck gold lately with their high mileage NAs (and NBs to a lesser extent)... when this simply isn't the case. An average mileage car may be worth a few grand more than say 5 years ago... which really isn't a whole lot. You make even less once you account for all the expenses like gas, insurance and maintenance... not to mention storing it somewhere. I mean shoot, people probably made 2-3 grand alone from stimulus checks last year.

Cars rarely make good investments and nobody can change my mind.

Not a $10k car with those miles.

It's no garage queen, that's for sure. But that's a bargain for someone who desires an LB&T. There's not too many sub-100k, rust free, mostly unmolested NAs under $8k any more, let alone in such a rare color combo.

If I were in the mood, I'd buy it, return it to stock with a tan top, original steering wheel, radio, vent rings and wheels (sell off the aftermarket bits on the side), then list on eBay with a $9500 reserve. Might not pull in much more than that. But back to stock as a 1 of 122 95 LB&T (no Hal, it's definitely not an M! :p), I bet it would see some good action.

I've always had the inclination (if not quite the wrenching skills) to pull a MrMustang and acquire one of each NA year/color combo to clean up and resell. But in the world of funny timing, I actually scratched the LB&T itch just a week ago today when I picked up this for $5k. Special thanks to Cincycaddy for taking it for a quick spin before I made the trip.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210828/e505bf6a620eafd01462e4473ff6c8d6.jpg

The car was an absolute beater, with serious swiss cheese in the rockers (and probably the trunk too - the carpet was hideous, I didn't even bother to pull it back) and dings all over the place. A local bought the car from me same day for $3500, so I got the hardtop for $1500. Well, more like $1850 when factoring in the U-Haul trailer rental and gas, but still, how many factory Laguna HTs are out there? Only 2,300 or so Lagunas in the U.S., and I bet fewer than a quarter of them came with hardtops.

Sure, I could repaint one, but there's nothing like a factory original to go with my 45k-mile 94 Laguna. But if I had to do it again, I'd get a hotel. Doing a 920-mile roundtrip in a single day, especially through the mountains with a trailer, is quite an endurance test.

P.S. True story - when I got home with the 94 LB&T, my mother-in-law called it ugly. (I didn't leave town just because she was here - really!!) And that's almost certainly why there were fewer than 500 of them made across 1994-95 - peanut butter and electric blue is a combo that won't appeal to everyone, just like SBY didn't back then. But owning a 1 of 122 NA package would be pretty darn cool.

I've been trying to talk SWMBO into a modern day version of the LB&T ;)

Only seen one of those before - absolutely gorgeous package. I’m SO disappointed Mazda hasn’t done that on their own. (Almost as disappointed as I was when Fiat shunned its Italian styling heritage to go with a Chrysler nose - sigh.)

Hope SWMBO concedes! :)

Bob_MX5

That ^^^, is a great looking LB&T.

I've always thought the Fiata was a better looking ND than the ND. Nothing angry about it. Just classic long nose short butt that's expected of a roadster. In some colors it looks terrible but others, like above and the Grey, it looks great IMHO.

I think its funny when people say "if you look hard". Look where? Thanks to the internet, backyard finds, garage sale finds, and pawn shop deals don't exist anymore. Everyone knows what their junk sitting in their attic or basem*nt is worth. This isn't 1985 when people wanted to get rid of stuff they didn't know was valuable because it was just taking up space and you had to KNOW it was worth something because of experience.

As the resident cynic here, I will go ahead and say deals basically don't exist anymore BECAUSE of the internet. There's nowhere else to "look hard". If its a "deal" what's wrong with it? MAYBE sometimes someone really just wants to get rid of something and so they price it lower than comparable things. Or MAYBE someone genuinely isn't in the know and is asking way lower for something than all the other "somethings" on the internet.

Deals exist. You just have to be quicker with cash in hand. If you balk - you'll miss out.

Things like PayPal have for me actually made securing deals easier. Allows you to pony up in advance with good faith deposits.

That was the 94 I picked up, not the 95 at the top of this thread. It was indeed quite awful. A buddy of mine bought it from me and I kept the hardtop. Honestly thought he’d part it out, but he’s going to try to save it - braver man than me!!!

To MrM’s point, no, at that asking price in this market, the non-stock bits clearly didn’t hinder a quick sale.

I would fully expect the black top to hinder a sale at a more aggressive price, which is why that was first on my list of things to restore for any would-be flipper. :)
