Last year in January we finally published "Riddles of Ukiyo-e. Women and men in Japanese prints, 1765-1865.", a beautiful book that features 123 of the most beautiful prints (and one painting) by the most famous artists from that time period. It was an accompanying catalogue to an exhibition at @sieboldhuis with the same name. I never really got to posting about it, so here we go.The book came out so great, with a rose gold foil print for the title, hardcover, and purple information pages with some explanatory charts about the more difficult parts of the book etc. In the colophon, my name is printed three times: writer, editor and coordinator. So weird, but so so proud. I've been kind of silent about it, apparently, because at the time, even some of my best friends didn't know I was coordinating an exhibition, writing and editing a book and managing contact with lenders, guest writers, the publisher and several institutions in the Netherlands and abroad. I'd been working on the project since March 2022, and oh my GOD was it a project. I've learned so much in the past year that it's unimaginable. It is also the reason I got so busy I really forgot to update my social media for a whole year, so I'm sorry for the late post. I think it took at least 6 editing rounds to get everything in order and beautiful and we needed a lot of feedback rounds and rewriting but we did it. I've never been as proud of something as I've been about this book. Fyi, available on Bol.com, Amazon, Barnes and Nobles to name a few.

My inauguration ceremony on August 17 was the official start of my function as Coordinator for International Relations in Hirado. Mayor Kuroda expressed his wish to strengthen the bonds between Hirado and the Netherlands and wished me good luck.I gave a short speech too, in which I vowed to do my utmost and expressed my excitement to be in the birthplace of Japanese-Dutch relations.

I have been working as Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) in Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture, for over two weeks. It has been a busy but amazing time! Before I left for Japan, I had the honor to meet Ambassador Minami at the Embassy of Japan in The Hague. We talked about Hirado, Dutch-Japanese ties and the food culture in Kyushu over a lovely cup of tea.Thank you very much for having me!

It is done, it is finally done! Sunday was the last day that the exhibition "the Riddles of Ukiyo-e" could be visited. It was on view at Japanmuseum SieboldHuis for 3 months and.. it was the exhibition that I co-organized! Writing the accompanying book, doing research on all the prints, communicating with guest-writers, lenders, museums all over the world (Japan, US, Europe etc) and the publisher, making a planning and pestering my colleagues to keep the deadlines (sorry guys!), endless rounds of editing and re-writing, seeing the first print of the book, actually holding the book (tears!).. and then the exhibition. It finally opened and the response has been so so positive. Newspapers (including NRC!) wrote amazing reviews, I've been interviewed on tv, gave a lot of tours through the exhibition, showed all my friends the fruits of my labour and enjoyed all the lovely comments on the social media account of the museum.I am extremely proud of my team and myself. Thank you, everybody, for enjoying the exhibition with me.
