As the countdown for the Elden Ring DLC—Shadow of the Erdtree—comes to a close, players will be on the lookout for valuable resources like Starlight Shards. These shards exist only in limited numbers, and as one of the best ways to regain FP, they are super valuable. As you prep for the DLC, collecting items you know you'll need for the battles ahead, make sure to grab as many Starlight Shards as you can hold (and store).

Because there is no FP-regenerating talisman, Starlight Shards are Elden Ring's way of providing you with some more FP in the heat of battle. They're super useful but also pretty rare, making knowing their locations pretty important to have a good setup for the more difficult fights. Starlight Shards are most often found in front of Stone Astrolabes, which are small, bowl-shaped structures near the edge of cliffs.

There are three Starlight Shards in Limgrave, which will start you out well for your foray into The Lands Between. Here are their locations:

Location

Description

East of Oridys' Rise, Weeping Peninsula

In the south of Limgrave, enter the Weeping Peninsula. East of the Castle Morne Rampart Site of Grace, use a whirlwind to reach Oridys' Rise. Head towards the cliff's edge to find the stone astrolabe and your Starlight Shard.

Cliff Southeast of Agheel Lake South Site of Grace

From the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace, head further south until you reach the whirlwind in the road. Take the whirlwind up to the cliff to the east, where you will find the astrolabe and the Shard.

South of Stormhill Shack

From the Stormhill shack, go south until you reach the Guardian Golem lying on the ground. From here, go west to the southern reach of the cliff, where you will see the Stone Astrolabe and the last Starlight Shard in Limgrave.

Collect and visit these locations early on to have a few Starlight Shards at your disposal as you begin the game. This will allow you to keep some FP in your back pocket for any emergencies. Some extra magic or Ashes of War right at the end of a fight can come in handy, which is something to keep in mind as you face the new creatures in Shadows of the Erdtree.

All Caelid Starlight Shard Locations

To Limgrave's east, Caelid also has three Starlight Shards, and here are their locations:

Location

Description

West of Caelid Highway South Site of Grace

Following the Caelid Highway, you'll reach the South Site of Grace. Head west until you find the Stone Astrolabe and your Starlight Shard.

East of the Church of the Plague

From the Backstreets Site of Grace, head along the path up the hill until you reach the Church. Veer off towards the east, where you will find the next Astrolabe and Shard.

Southeast of Bestial Sanctum

In Caelid's Dragonbarrow, this area is full of Black Blade Kindred and other suitably terrible monsters. Once arriving at Bestial Sanctum, turn towards the cliff to the southeast and head to find this location's last Starlight Shard.

Though you should be around levels 60-70 before heading into Caelid, you can get here pretty early on. You don't need to rush heading into the war-torn area, as there are plenty of challenges in Limgrave, but if you're determined to speedrun Starlight Shard collection, you might as well head this way. Grab the Shards located across the region, then move on to Liurnia of the Lakes.

All Liurnia of the Lakes Starlight Shard Locations

There are technically only three Starlight Shards locations in Liurnia of the Lakes, but these three locations will net you a whopping 12 total Shards. Here are the locations and a bit of an explanation:

Location

Description

Cathedral of Manus Sellus

After finishing Ranni the Witch's Quest, use the Deep Ainsel Well elevator to access the plateau south of the region. You will be able to find 10 Starlight Shards scattered around the Cathedral, which is located on the plateau.

North of the Cathedral of Manus Sellus

After collecting the Shards from the Cathedral, head north to find another Astrolabe and an eleventh shard.

South of Artists Shack

Head south of the Artists Shack Site of Grace to find a Stone Astrolabe and Starlight Shard.

Once you've reached this point, you've picked up several Starlight Shards. You may have noticed that the game only allows you to hold up to 10 Starlight Shards at a time, so make sure you're storing them as you go. You can store up to 999 Shards, so you'll have plenty of space to keep collecting once you empty your pockets.

All Altus Plateau Starlight Shard Locations

Returning to form, there are three Starlight Shards in the Altus Plateau. Here are their locations:

Location

Description

North of Shaded Castle

Follow the path northeast of the Erdtree-Grazing Hill Site of Grace and then head behind the Shaded Castle to find the Starlight Shard and Stone Astrolabe.

Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast in Mt. Gelmir

Once you've reached the Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast boss (and maybe collected the Beast's jaw), head to the south of the crater it patrols. This is south of the Ninth Mt. Gelmir Campsite, and you'll be able to find a Shard and Stone Astrolabe here.

Hermit Village

Southeast of Mt. Gelmir, Hermit Village is a small group of homes and is the location of several key items. Among them is a Starlight Shard, which can be found at the cliff edge of the Stone Astrolabe there.

All Mountaintops of the Giants Starlight Shard Locations

By the time you've reached the Mountaintops region, you'll likely have collected most of the Starlight Shards that Elden Ring offers. If not, or if you need more, two final Shards can be collected here. Here are all of their locations:

Locations

Description

Northeast of the Foot of the Forge

Right before the Fire Giant boss fight, you'll come upon the Foot of the Forge Site of Grace. From here, head northeast to find the Stone Astrolabe and Starlight Shard at the marked location at the cliff's edge.

West of Castle Sol

On the way to Castle Sol, you can find the last Starlight Shard being guarded by a Death Rite Bird. Head west from the Castle Sol Main Gate Site of Grace, go west, and climb the small hill, and you will see a Starlight Shard. Once here, you can either fight the Bird or sneak by it to pick up the Shard.

Bonus Starlight Shard Location

Get a Secret Starlight Shard

If you've gotten this far, you're likely full up on Starlight Shards. If you're still looking for more, perhaps to support your powerful Ashes of War, you can grab one last Starlight Shard in Elden Ring. As you progress Sorceress Sellen's questline, find Master Lusat and chat with him. If you're unsure how to do this, check out Doms Roundtable's YouTube video above, which shows a full walkthrough.

To get to this point, find Sorceress Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins, become her apprentice, and then tell her where Master Azur is. She will give you the key to open the barrier and keep you from Master Lusat. After you find him, return to her and tell her where he is; she'll reward you with the final Starlight Shard Elden Ring has to offer. After grabbing this last Shard, you should have plenty for all your FP-charging needs.
