I logged in to pay my bill and it asked if I wanted to link my accounts since it found more than one. I did so but now my husband can't access his email at all. Under Linked Accounts it shows my email and a button to get mail, which works for mine, but then where it shows the second account with my husband's email, if I click to read his email it shows mine also. So now we can't access my husband's email at all. There is no button shown to unlink accounts. How do we fix this? He needs to access his email.

Hi @vlcjwh,

We understand that you’re experiencing issues with the linked accounts, and we know the importance of accessing the emails. We can help you unlink your accounts and access your emails.

Furthermore, we recommend that you log in to your email account (the one that’s currently linked). Look for any settings related to linked accounts or account management. We suggest you download any account info you’d like to keep prior to removing the account.

You can remove a linked account by following the steps below.

FYI: You can’t remove combined accounts (multiple services on the same account number) or U-verse TV and AT&T Internet accounts if you have primary online access. You also can’t remove suspended accounts.

  1. Go to your myAT&T Profile. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Scroll to My linked accounts.
  3. Choose Remove this account for the account you want to unlink. If you try to remove a canceled account with a balance due, we’ll ask you to make a payment.
  4. Select one of these, if asked:
    • A secondary user to replace you as the primary user
    • No one
  5. Choose a new primary contact account, if asked.
  6. Follow the directions to remove the account from your ID.

If you’re using Gmail, you can manage linked accounts by following these steps:

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. Click on the gear icon (Settings) in the top right corner.
  3. Select “See all settings.”
  4. Go to the “Accounts and Import” or “Accounts” tab.
  5. In the “Check mail from other accounts” section, click “Add a mail account.”
  6. Enter your husband’s email address and follow the prompts to link or unlink the account.

We hope this helps, and your husband regains access to his emails. Feel free to reach out to us for further assistance.

Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

But I can find no button that says "Remove this account." Both of our emails end in sbcglobal.net. What now?

As I told you, there is no "Remove this Account" to choose. Are you a robot?

I called your 800 number and talked to someone in India or somewhere and they could not help me, they transferred me to what turned out to be a telephone line service person. He gave me the phone number for Yahoo which turned out to be disconnected. So I have no where to turn for help.

Heres a link for survey to recover lost access to the account: AT&T Yahoo Email account recovery (att.com)

Also to delink the account you need to call 800 288 2020 and have them file escalation ticket to delink them for you. They'll contact backoffice and then someone will call you back to do so while on the phone with you. It is what it is.

@receding_hairline:Thanks for the "delink" HOWTO.

I linked one of my e-mail accounts to my AT&T account without understanding (i.e. being informed by AT&T) that the accounts would share the same password.

One password for all things AT&T is certainly more convenient. It's also, without a doubt, a security nightmare.

Before linking, I had separate passwords for each of my e-mail accounts and my AT&T account. Linking eliminated one crucial separation. Now I'm relying on a single password to protect the two accounts because deleting the affected e-mail account is out of the question.

Delinking e-mail accounts must be added as an option on the website. Less stress for the folks and fewer headaches for the backoffice.

I was able to find a way to de-link the accounts somehow, I just stumbled across it while logging in, it gave that option. I don't know if I could even find it again but it worked. We share the same password but at least now my husband can see his email.
