Jason, These mid-size truck comparisons are always interesting. It is not just gathering all the data, but your assessment of what the numbers mean in the real world. And, the recurring theme that people need to think through how they are going to use the truck and which features are actually important to them.

Love seeing these specs side-by-side! That said, to each his own. I do love being able to lay a piece of plywood, or more importantly, a piece of sheet rock flat. Lessens the chances of scarring up the edges. I love my Colorado, but I’d sure love having 4’ between the wheel wells. If after testing both I determined them to be neck and neck, the Ford with its 48” width between wells could well be the determining factor.
Yep and for some that matters. For me I have a couple trailers always have and would use those
Excellent video! Informative and useful! I agree completely, as I’ve owned three midsized trucks and four full sized trucks and have only carried plywood a couple times ever!! My truck beds are more for mountain bikes, camping gear (under bed cover) and other home improvement projects!! Plywood, not so often!
Length and depth are most important!
Thanks a lot!!@SamkoWorkShop 2
Yep I feel the same. I have a trailer if I'm gonna carry plywood or drywall or paneling etc.
@@SamkoWorkShopi can to, and love trailers!. But sometimes you just don't want to deal with hooking one up. Parking also becomes a issue. I also hardly made it through the ATM to get money with the trailer it was close. Going through the drive through to get my coffee becomes very problematic depending on the drive through. Parking is basically 3 spots. Good luck finding three open spots in a row. But yes. I do love trailers for load convenience.( not so much driving with one).
Quicker just throwing stuff in the truck unless you are carrying a lot@SamkoWorkShop 2
@itsallminor6133 like I said though last time I needed just one or 2 sheets of ply or drywall was over a decade ago. So that point of a truck bed is irrelevant to me.
Wow! The Ranger bed is almost as deep as my gen2 Tundra.
Love the depth. Let's you fit more stuff under a tonneau cover
Totally agree on the gladiator height it’s been an inconvenience a few times but some coolers fit perfectly
Yep the height is what matters most if you are gonna run a cover
Cool video Jason, you're always putting together cool stuff. If I had to buy one of these new boosted trucks which I would hate to do, I would probably get the ranger 2.7 V-6... I like that it's the only gasser with the V6 option that's in a decent price range. But I'd probably just buy a used low miles 3rd gen Tacoma about 40K if something happened to mine 🤷
Both of those are great options! Hopefully ford gets around to putting out the 2.7 for the ranger sometime in the next 20 years 😂..kidding but sure is taking them a long time. And the 2.u is a longtime proven truck motor. And all the bugs have been worked out for the most part.
But a 3rd gen taco is the king of reliable midsize trucks will go down in history as that too.
The Ridgeline turns out to be the best pickup and it doesnt even have a frame. 🤣😃. Shows honda is still practical.
Other then that. I'd go with the frontier. I've had frontiers and wasn't easy on them. Tough little truck. Broke the leaf springs on one carrying loam, but. Oops. It lived.@SamkoWorkShop 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
If bed size is most important to you the Ridgeline wins. Also in on road manors and inside space. It's like a car with a truck bed. And does it very well
I actually like the Honda If you aren't towing over 3k or going offroad. Decent payload. Practical. Lower to the ground easier to load. I don't remember if those motors are limited to direct injection and have buildup problems? Think it's still a V6. @@SamkoWorkShop
@itsallminor6133 it's still a v6 and been proven for many years
Definitely the ridge line. It's lower. Also the tailgate opens to the side. Heavy stuff like bags of Portland cement I load with a cart or dolly. I can run a ramp up into the ridge line. Way easier . Actually easier to load with a forklift too. Bed opens to the side. You all can have fun trying to look cool. I'd rather not carry tons of chit I'm good. @@SamkoWorkShop

@@SamkoWorkShop 😆 yeah I'm old school. There pickups so if I do pickup up things nice to have space. Just couldn't get over not having one. Somebody referred to 5ft bed as a man purse lol. Love the channel brother thanks 😊
@Flash....Gordon..42 yep everything is a trade off. Would love a 6 foot bed on a mid size. But that comes at a cost or usability off road. If Iwas using a truck for anything other than offroad use I would go straight to the f250 or ram 2500 personally
@@SamkoWorkShopwould you really daily drive a 6800lb truck?
@@sharkskin3448 MY wife did! for 3 years she daily drove out 2019 ram 2500 Cummins On 35s. To this day she says it was her all time favorite vehicle she has ever owned (shes had 6 explorers, 2 f150s, a tuarus, a mustang and a 4 runner). But the 4 runner was more practical and less expensive to own so she sold it and got that. She loves the 4 runner. But the ram was here favorite.

TONNEAU COVER VS Collapsible Bed Cover?
Both have advantages. Both are great. All depends on your needs. I do like the price point of the soft toppers. They are often cheaper than some of the tonneau covers
@@SamkoWorkShop I would just throw a twin size mattress in the bed and head to the Smokies, but I don't know if this would work with tonneau cover? It seems like it would, and If it rains I would just close it completely?
